For nearly 40 years, AIG Maurice "Hank" Greenberg was one of the most powerful CEOs in America. He built American International Group (AIG) from a second-rate insurer with a great Chinese franchise into one of the world's most profitable and admired companies. Then in September 2008, three years after Greenberg was forced to leave the company, AIG teetered on the brink of collapse. In a new, second edition of Fallen Giant: The Amazing Story of Hank Greenberg and the History of AIG, AIG insider Ronald Shelp, who held senior positions at AIG for 12 years, examines the latest developments for both Greenberg and AIG, including the many lawsuits, how AIG was rescued by the Fed, AIG’s public relations nightmares (from bonuses to parties); and Greenberg’s losing struggle to save a lifetime’s work.
Ron Shelp has many years of experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors. He served as a domestic and international troubleshooter and also supervised world-wide government relations, corporate communications, and advertising/sales promotion at AIG. He also served on a number of AIG boards. Following his departure from AIG, Shelp worked at Celanese Corporation as a member of the management committee and for Burson-Marsteller. He later became co-founder, president, and CEO of an Internet company. Shelp's nonprofit experience inlcudes serving as president and CEO of New York City Partnership, which was founded by David Rockefeller and simultaneously the New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
